70th (Surrey) Regiment of Foot
The 70th (Surrey) Regiment of Foot was a regiment of the British Army formed in 1758 and united with the 31st (Huntingdonshire) Regiment of Foot in 1881 to form The East Surrey Regiment .
== History ==
The regiment was formed in 1758 from the 2nd Battalion, 31st Regiment of Foot as the 70th (Glasgow Lowland) Regiment of Foot. In 1825 it became the 70th (The Surrey) Regiment.
The regiment was at Guadeloupe in 1810, fought during the Maori War in New Zealand, amongst other things building a fort at Miranda, New Zealand, and served on the North West Frontier.
